Immigrant Population Prevents Demographic Decline

The U.S. government revoked detention and removal protections for hundreds of thousands of people, pending a Supreme Court decision. According to NPR, the decision pushed the U.S. towards a demographic cliff. It highlights how removing the migrant and immigrant population leaves the U.S. open to population decline.

According to the Cato Institute, the past year saw the lowest growth in U.S. population since the Great Depression. This counts for both births and immigration into America. Additionally, the U.S. Census Bureau explained immigration enforcement made population growth drop forty-five percent during 2025. Finally, the total number of Americans under the age of twenty-five decreased nationwide over the past year.

This wasn’t just for large population centers. States with already low populations like Kansas, Iowa, and Nebraska saw a drop in the immigrant population in the past year. The entire U.S. population already faced decline in the late twenty-first century. Immigration enforcement possibly jump-started this decline.
