Children of Immigrants Affected by Parent Removals

U.S. immigration authorities detained and removed parents of U.S. citizens over the past twelve months. These efforts separated hundreds of thousands of children of immigrants from their parents, according to CBS news. Most of these individuals have no criminal convictions on their record.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained fourteen thousand parents of U.S. born children during the first eight months of 2025. That’s more than the number of parents detained throughout 2022 and 2023 combined. Additionally, more than four and a half million children of immigrants in the U.S. have a parent at risk of detention or removal. CBS states children separated from their detained parents exhibit intense emotional trauma, separation anxiety, and refusing normal daily tasks like going to school or playing sports.
