Department of Homeland Security (DHS) moves to impose temporary protected status (TPS) terminations on four countries has been blocked by federal courts. This means beneficiaries from the affected countries won’t lose their detention and removal protections until the DHS resolves the blocks in court. It’s unclear if the DHS will appeal all four blocks together or separately.
Court Block Details
The following countries had TPS designations terminated by the DHS, only to have said termination blocked by the courts:
- South Sudan.
- Termination would’ve taken effect on January 5, 2026.
- Syria.
- Termination would’ve taken effect on November 21, 2025.
- Ethiopia.
- Termination would’ve taken effect on February 12, 2026.
- Myanmar.
- Termination would’ve taken effect on January 26, 2026.
Additionally, USCIS published notices for E-Verify users from each country on how to proceed until the situation’s resolved.
