DHS Establishes Immigration Enforcement Network

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agencies have built an extensive enforcement network for immigration agencies over the course of the past year. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) particularly contributed to both its construction. Said network helps authorities locate, track, and detain undocumented migrants in the field.

For the past year, ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) have used a wide array of tools for surveillance and enforcement. NPR explained the passage of the One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act ballooned the DHS budget. Around the same time, ICE and other immigration enforcement tactics began to be more aggressive.

Several institutions, both private and federal, have entered data sharing agreements with ICE and the DHS. For example, companies like Palantir and institutions like the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) gave ICE access to their user data and the technology to expand their reach. The IRS agreement alone gives ICE access to the tax records of forty-six thousand people. The DHS explained said network helps immigration agents better identify and neutralize potential public safety and national security threats. Using databases like those from the IRS helps immigration enforcement agents accurately identify said threats.
