USCIS Changes Form I-693 Validity

Changes to the validity of Form I-693, Report of Immigration Medical Examination and Vaccination Record by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Individuals can no longer submit outdated versions of Form I-693 signed on or after November 1, 2023. Versions of Form I-693 already submitted are exempted from validity changes and will still be processed. If the Form I-693 application is withdrawn or denied after being submitted, applicants must submit a current version.

Form I-693 is a visa form submitted along with Form I-485, or Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status. USCIS rejects adjustment of status applications without it. Applicants must fill out and submit a new Form I-683 each time they apply for a legal status adjustment.

Some individuals are required to submit a partial Form I-693, especially if they’ve already completed a medical examination conducted by a certified physician outside the country. These groups are:

  • Refugees and derivative asylees.
  • Noncitizens admitted to the U.S. as a spouse or child of a spouse, of a U.S. citizen, fiancée or child of fiancé of a U.S. citizen.
  • Afghan nationals arriving under Operation Allies Welcome.

Immigrants subject to inadmissibility on health-related grounds must have medical examination to demonstrate said inadmissibility. All variants of Form I-693 must be signed by a qualified civil surgeon. Individuals applying for an adjustment of status and haven’t submitted a variant of Form I-693 are recommended to review their current applications to maximize the chances of acceptance.
