Federal Judge Questions Texas State Immigration Legislation

A new Texas law makes it illegal to enter the state without a legal basis. The state’s immigration law goes into effect March 5, 2024. Per the law, SB4, state judges have the authority to issue removal orders. The Department of Justice is suing Texas, emphasizing that only the Federal Government can make and enforce immigration law.

U.S. District Judge Ezra understands the state’s concerns due to the situation at the southern border and ongoing complications as the United States’ immigration laws remain unchanged. The Judge, however, went on to criticize the Texas State Law. He completely rejected the state’s claim that there is an ‘invasion’ happening at the Texas-Mexico border.

Texas argued that the state’s immigration law is complementary to federal law and that Texas has the right to protect itself from a full-scale invasion of criminal cartels. The judge stated that he does not see any signs of such a situation.

The Judge stated that the case will take time and may ultimately end up with the Supreme Court.
