Anticipation Builds for Phase 2 of The Welcome Corps Program and Long-Awaited Reunions

People are eagerly waiting for updates on the Welcome Corps Program. ILBSG is keeping a close eye on all Welcome Corps related updates to keep our interested clients informed. Phase 1 of the program launched successfully on Tuesday, June 20, 2023. This marks a significant milestone for the Welcome Corps program, as the first group of refugees privately sponsored by Americans arrived in the United States.

The Welcome Corps Program is implemented in two phases by the Department of State. Phase 2 is expected to start in the middle of 2023, but there is no specific information available on when it will begin. Currently, the focus is on Phase 1. During this phase, private sponsors are matched with refugees who have already been approved for private settlement under the U.S Refugee Admissions program (USRAP). The Department of State plans to carry out both phases during the first year.

In Phase 2, private sponsors will have the opportunity to identify refugees and refer them to USRAP for resettlement. Specific refugee individuals or families overseas can be sponsored based on the criteria set by the U.S. government. Phase 2 has not yet been launched, and applications cannot be submitted at this time. For those who are waiting for Phase 2, it’s a good idea to consider taking the Welcome Corps Essential Training. Resources and guidance are available on the Welcome Corps website. Participation in Phase 1 is not required for Phase 2 sponsorship.
