The U.S. Senate introduced a budget resolution for immigration enforcement budget on April 21, 2026. The proposed resolution fully funds Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol for another three and a half years. Specifically, funding plans last through 2029 and cost between seventy and eighty billion dollars.
Debates over immigration enforcement funding initially led to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shutdown. The shutdown stemmed from disagreement over continuing funding for immigration agencies, such as ICE. The Senate must pass the budget resolution by May 15, 2026.
