CBP Home App Offers Reward for Voluntary Removal

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced a new stipend for undocumented individuals that voluntary leave the U.S. Individuals that register their departure via the Customs and Bord Protection (CBP) Home App will receive a payment of two-thousand and six-hundred dollars. Additionally, individuals that voluntarily depart the United States will be allowed to legally re-enter the country in the future.

The DHS explained the payments encourage individuals to depart the country of their own volition, rather than being subject to removal procedures. Since January 2025, over two million people have voluntarily left the U.S. More than ten thousand of these individuals registered their departure in the CBP Home App.

Voluntary removal is both cost-effective and gives individuals a chance to reenter the U.S. legally. The DHS explained that a single removal operation costs over eighteen thousand dollars. In contrast, voluntary removal costs only five thousand dollars. In total, each instance of voluntary removal saves the U.S. taxpayer thirteen thousand dollars.

Additionally, individuals that depart voluntarily from the U.S. can legally return to the country legally. Those removed by immigration authorities are bared from re-entering. The DHS urged undocumented individuals to voluntarily depart before being detained by immigration authorities. Doing so saves money and leaves any legal pathways open to them.
