Visa Appointments Postponed for H-1B and H-4 Petitioners

U.S. consulates are canceling and rescheduling H-1B and H-4 visa appointments. The temporary pause is likely due to expanded review of online applications. The move is part of larger effort increasing government scrutiny towards the H-1B program.

Many of the visa appointments have been rescheduled by months. Some have even been pushed back until 2026. Implementation of the new visa review system is likely disrupting appointment schedules and extending wait times. Visa applicants must attend the new appointment date, not the original date.

On December 6, 2025, the U.S. Department of State (DOS) signaled expanded measures for H-1B and H-4 petitions. Simultaneously, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) established a new vetting center in Atlanta to centralized inter-agency immigration screening. These changes reflect a broader shift towards greater government scrutiny and technology-driven vetting. All these measures being implemented simultaneously are likely the cause of all the delays.

H-1B and H-4 applicants that received an email notifying them of a rescheduled visa appointment should reach out to the nearest U.S. consulate if they have any questions. Do not show up to the consulate or embassy on the original appointment. U.S. consular authorities will deny you entry. Staying informed and planning accordingly gives applicants the best chance of getting their visa petition accepted.
