All foreign nationals in the U.S., except A and G visa holders and visitors on a visa waiver are legally required to report an address change within ten days of moving. This will help them receive benefits and correspondence in a efficient manner.
Foreign nationals can update their address either online or through mail. Those filling out an online request are encouraged to submit via the Enterprise Change of Address (E-COA) self-service tool, while those submitting a request by mail should fill out a Form AR-11. It should be noted groups such as protected persons will need to follow special procedures if submitting online with E-COA. All immigration benefit applications must have their receipt number entered into the address change request in the online USCIS address change form to ensure said benefits are applied correctly.
Failure to comply with the address change policy may result in foreign national’s ability to remain and/or re-enter the United States affected as a result. Noncompliance may also be prosecuted under a misdemeanor, and receive fine not to exceeding $200 and/or a period of imprisonment no longer than thirty days. Applicants are highly encouraged to retain a record of their request and other important documents should the government accuse them of failing to comply.
