State Immigration Laws Could See More Support from Trump Nominee

Several states have proposed state immigration laws. However, these laws haven’t been enforced yet due to legal challenges from the Biden administration. However, if Pam Bondi is confirmed as President-elect Trump’s Attorney General, state immigration laws might get more support.

Once confirmed by Congress, Ms. Bondi will lead the U.S. Department of Justice. Based on her past statements, it’s unlikely she will continue to fight against these state laws. Recently, Iowa, Texas, and Oklahoma passed laws allowing local law enforcement to stop and detain people they believe are in the U.S. illegally.

The Biden administration argues that immigration is a federal responsibility, which is why it is challenging these state laws. In 2012, Ms. Bondi supported Arizona’s law that allowed police to check someone’s immigration status if they had a reasonable suspicion. As Florida’s attorney general, she also supported similar laws.
