U.S. Executes Removal Flight to India

On October 22, 2024, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, through Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), conducted a removal flight back to India. The individuals removed were in the U.S. without legal permission. This flight is part of a series of deportations to various countries.

Since June 2024, following new border security rules, the number of people trying to cross the U.S. border has decreased by over 50%. In the last fiscal year, more than 160,000 people were sent back to their home countries, with over 495 deportation flights to more than 145 countries.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is coordinating with other countries to plan these repatriation flights. In the past year, flights were completed to places like Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Egypt, and Senegal. In FY2024, the number of people removed from the U.S. was the highest since FY2010, and DHS plans to continue increasing these flights.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported that between October 2023 and September 2024, they encountered 90,415 Indians who were trying to enter the U.S. without proper documents.
