The House introduced a bill to help keep foreign STEM graduates in the U.S. The bill, called the Keep STEM Graduates in America Act (HR 9023), aims to make it easier for graduates in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields to stay in the country.
The bill suggests increasing the number of visas available, making it easier to extend visas for recent graduates, and simplifying the H-1B visa process. Currently, there is a cap of 65,000 H-1B visas available each year. The bill doesn’t specify how many more visas might be added but suggests increasing the number. It also proposes more flexible rules to give recent graduates more time to find jobs. This bill is still just a proposal.
