USCIS Revises Naturalization Form

USCIS announced updates to Form N-400, Application for Naturalization. The revised form will be available April 1, 2024. If individuals are using and submitting the existing form online, it must be completed and submitted by March 31, 2024. USCIS will remove online in-process N-400 forms on April 1, 2024. If filing a paper application, the current version of the form will be accepted through June 2, 2024.

The revised N-400 form includes a few updates. Changes to several data fields have been made, including offering an additional gender X option. Other fields have been removed. Additionally, the revised form provides filers the option to request updates to the Social Security Administration (SSA).

With the April 1, 2024 version, USCIS offers Form N-400, Application for Naturalization, applicants an option to request a new or replacement Social Security Number. Petitioners are also given the option to update their immigration status with the SSA without requiring a visit to the Social Security Administration (SSA) office.

The Social Security Administration may require additional information as needed. Please note, individuals using the N-400 with an edition date of 09/17/19 do not have the Social Security Number option. This is because the SSA questions are not included in that version of the form. The 09/17/19 version will only be accepted through June 2, 2024, and only via paper filing.

The revised N-400 will be available for online filing on April 1, 2024. Individuals must have a USCIS online account to file online. There is no fee to create the account and it offers several other benefits.
