The Supreme Court allowed the federal government to take down razor wire placed by Texas along the border with Mexico. Before this decision, the Fifth Circuit limited the government’s ability to remove the fencing. The Supreme Court voted 5-4 in favor of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s request to lift the order from the appellate court.
The Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and U.S. Border Patrol asked the judges to approve the removal of the 29-mile-long fence. Texas had installed the fencing to prevent migrants from entering the U.S. at the southern border.
