The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced a new opportunity for families from Ecuador to be together with their relatives who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. This is part of the current government’s plan to make legal ways for people to come to the U.S. and to reduce illegal immigration.
The parole process lets eligible Ecuadorian nationals join their family members in the U.S. legally. They can stay for up to three years while they wait to become permanent residents. To qualify, they need to have an approved Form I-130 and meet some rules, including health and security checks.
The process starts when a U.S. citizen or permanent resident from Ecuador gets an invitation from the Department of State. They can then ask for parole for their Ecuadorian family member.
Parole is given case by case when there are urgent reasons. Those who get parole can ask to work while they wait for their immigrant visa. The Immigration and Nationality Act allows this process, and similar programs have been used for other countries in the past.
