The registration period for the Diversity Visa 2025 program is now open. It started on October 4, 2023, and will run until Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at 12:00 noon, Eastern Standard Time (EST). Remember, only one entry is allowed per person during this time. If there are multiple entries for one person, all of them will be disqualified.
Every year, the Department of State runs the Diversity Immigration Visa Program, which is required by a law called Section 203 (c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. This program allows people from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the U.S. to apply for a visa. For Fiscal Year 2025, there are up to 55,000 Diversity Visas (DVs) available. Registering is free, but if you’re selected for an interview, you’ll need to pay a visa application fee before applying formally. A consular officer decides if you’re eligible for a DV.
There are strict requirements for DVs. The Department of State selects people randomly using a computer draw, picking people from six different regions. No single country can receive more than 7% of the available DVs in a single year.
For DV-2025, people from the following countries and areas can’t apply because over 50,000 of their natives have immigrated to the United States in the last five years, making them ineligible for the Diversity Visa program:
- Bangladesh
- Brazil
- Canada
- The People’s Republic of China (including mainland and Hong Kong born)
- Colombia
- Dominican Republic
- El Salvador
- Haiti
- Honduras
- India
- Jamaica
- Mexico
- Nigeria
- Pakistan
- Philippines
- Republic of Korea (South Korea)
- Venezuela
- Vietnam
However, natives of Macau SAR and Taiwan can apply for the Diversity Visa 2025 program.
The following country and area have become eligible for the program:
- United Kingdom and its dependent territories.
There are no other changes to eligibility.
