USCIS introduced a helpful online tool for rescheduling biometrics appointments. The rescheduling tool can be accessed via a USCIS online account regardless of whether the pending case was submitted online or by mail. Visa applicants and their representatives can still call the USCIS Contact Center if they prefer.
Individuals must have a valid reason for rescheduling a biometrics appointment. Some examples include:
- Illness, medical appointment, or hospitalization.
- Previously planned travel.
- Significant life events such as weddings or graduations.
- Lack of transportation to the appointment location.
- Unavailable due to caregiver responsibilities or approved employment leave.
- Late undelivered notice for the biometric services appointment.
Individuals can only reschedule their biometrics appointments up to two times. Additionally, they cannot submit a request if the appointment has already passed or is within the next 12 hours. In such cases, individuals should call the USCIS Contact Center for untimely rescheduling. USCIS is updating its Policy Manual to provide further details on what is considered an untimely request to reschedule and the consequences if appointments are missed.
