If an individual is applying to extend or change their nonimmigrant status using Form I-539, they now have the option to apply for premium processing. This applies to those who file a change of status for F-1, F-2, M-1, M-2, J-1, or J-2. Individuals can submit Form I-907, Request for Premium Processing Service, online.
The premium processing option is being introduced in stages. Individuals requesting premium processing should follow the schedule below:
- From June 13 onwards, those applying for a change of status to F-1, F-2, M-1, M-2, J-1, or J-2 and have a pending Form I-539 can submit Form I-907 online or on paper.
- From June 26 onwards, those who are filing both the change of status and Form I-539 together, can also submit Form I-907 online or on paper.
Keep in mind this phase only applies to requests for change of status. Individuals seeking an extension of stay in M-2 or M-2 status are not eligible in this phase.
If an individual submits a premium processing request for a pending Form I-539 before June 13, it will be rejected. The same goes for submitting a premium processing request with Form I-539 before June 26.
Both Form I-907 and Form I-539 must be submitted in the same way, either online or via paper. If the forms are submitted differently, they will be rejected.
Before premium processing can begin for these categories, biometrics must be submitted. If USCIS accepts the individual’s Form I-907 and related fees, the premium processing time limit will start once the applicant and any co-applicants on Form I-539 have submitted their biometric information. USCIS may reject an individual’s forms if they’re submitted with other requests or multiple Forms I-907 together.
