Two individuals falsely claiming to be immigration attorneys and filing invalid documents for recruited individuals have been assigned a five-year prison sentence. The individuals operated two companies called JLLAS Corp. and EIMAAN LLC offering immigration services. Many of the clients of these companies did not have a legal status to be in the United States and had a limited understanding of the English language. The companies were paid by these individuals, totaling over $325,000. Over 40 individuals who were working to gain work authorization, green cards, and other paths to obtain citizenship were affected.
The individuals found guilty of fraud operated from 2015 to 2020. Immigration documents were created without the consent of the clients, submitting fraudulent applications and documents to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Those documents are considered part of the individuals’ official files, creating additional complexity for their path to citizenship.
The sentence administered by the courts to the individuals includes repayment of fees to the victims, a five-year prison sentence, and three years of supervised release following their time in prison. One individual charged admitted their guilt in November 2021.
The charged individuals claim they provided these ‘services’ to individuals with the intent of helping them. As immigrants themselves, they felt moved to help others who were trying to find their way to legal status in the United States.
